Overview

The road between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap is one of the busiest in the country but the traffic is light compared to major roads in Vietnam and Thailand. Unlike other roads in Cambodia, it's in excellent condition. It can be easily divided up into four manageable rides; the downside is that if you start early to avoid the heat of the day, you'll end up killing time in the dull one-horse towns where you'll be spending the night. Bring a pack of cards. It's worth it for the stunning temples at Angkor archaeological park.

The road between Siem Reap and the Thai border is appalling - it's bad even for a dirt road. There's heavy bus and taxi traffic causing a constant dust storm and vehicles often have to leave the road to avoid the potholes. Take a bus.
