The journey
It costs $20 for a 1 day pass, $40 for a 3 day pass, $60 for a 7 day pass (visiting days must be sequential). You need a passport photograph for the pass. The exchange rate for riel was 4200 to $1 but it can vary, so it's better to pay for the pass in dollars. One day is not enough, three days is about right but seven days would let you cycle to all the temples and see absolutley everything. The road is sealed between all the main temples, although it's old and rough in places. Drink and food was available everywhere but it was more expensive than in Siem Reap. Many of the roads were tree-lined and shady. There were free toilets (if you show your pass) dotted around the park. The main attractions were busy with tourists but it quietened down very quickly when you wander away from the entrace. Many visitors are in tour groups which don't spend long at each temple. The popular spots were busy at sunset (the view from Phnom Bakheng was not worth the climb). The best tree shots were at Ta Prohm.
It was $25 to hire a tuk-tuk and driver for the day. If you have the time, the 7 day pass is only $20 more than the 3 day pass which would give you enough time to cycle to Banteay Srei and back as a day trip (64km round trip) then out to Roluos on another day. The road to Banteay Srei was signed and sealed all the way but some patches were very rough and the top seal was missing. It was being re-gravelled in parts. It's very popular with coach tours and because it's small, was the busiest temple in the park. Banteay Samrey was close to the junction with the road back to Preah Khan. The Roluos are out along NH6 to the east. There's a 9km short cut from Banteay Srei to the Roluos along a dirt road, going straight on instead of right at the junction with the road back to Preah Khan, although it was rutted in places.
