The journey
Good surface all the way and wide lanes and later on a hard shoulder. Quiet traffic except for occasional high-speed cars and buses. Moderate to light south/south-easterly wind which was more noticeable when the road was exposed. Very straight and quite an empty ride with small strung out villages. Stoung, the half-way point of the ride, had three guesthouses and a restaurant. There was a rest-stop restaurant 17km out of Kampong Thom and enough places to get water along the road. Once into Siem Reap province there were signs and km markers, and villages had place-name signs.Kampong Kdei was a small town with three guesthouses, a few restaurants and a market with several bike shops - but they couldn't fix a broken spoke on the rear wheel beneath the gear cassette.
The room
Nora guesthouse$5 for double room with fan, bathroom with cold water, squat toilet.
Block of rooms in a leafy compound, feels a bit like a home-stay. Nice old lady owner speaks some French and English.
