The journey
The ride was mostly flat, exposed without shade and extremely uninteresting. The wind blew in gusts and was often against us, dropping off towards the end of the ride. There were a few very sparse villages along the way and the only food available was in Pakkading. The traffic was light but buses and pick-ups raced past very fast and overtook dangerously on bends, hills and even while other vehicles were overtaking. There were lots of new buildings at Pakkading, including a brand new guesthouse. Two guesthouses were signed at Houay Xam Mong, in the same area as Phonsi; Thongnamy had a guesthouse at the market.We only found one guesthouse in Vieng Kham, on the south of town - it has a disco hall too. There were a handful of places to eat.

Basic but relatively clean and new. Disco on site, but we weren't disturbed by loud music.
