The journey

We caught the train out of Bangkok because the roads are hellish. We weren't allowed to take bikes on the express train at 10am. The 9.25am regular rain cost B15 per person and B180 per bike. The bikes had tickets attached to them and went in the luggage van at the front of the train. Everything went smoothly, although a guard did offer to "help unload" for B20; we declined and a different guard helped anyway.

Ayutthaya station is 5km from town. The historic park is in the centre of town and perfect for exploring by bike. There are lots of bike rental shops, although bizarrely several people were riding hire bikes still covered in bubble wrap. There are many restaurants and guest houses in town; Tony's Place has a good restaurant.
